Nintendogs is awesome fun, you can easily spend an hour or two alone with your virtual dogs doing all types of things, it gets really fun and addicting, and you need no skill.
But if you have a little bit of skill, then go for PictoChat. Epicness.

Cooking mama is great, it’s not exactly adventure, but it’s fun and doesn’t take loads of skill either. Nintendogs is fantastic too, and it’s not dull. A good adventure one is animal crossing.

If scribblenauts is your sort of thing, then you should try drawn to life or animal crossing. my sister has the catz game and she treats it like a pet, not sure how good the actual gameplay is. there are a lot of games that appeal to different genres like the phoenix wright games which actually require you to have a brain. otherwise try games like rub rabbits, feel the magic XY, mario party DS or final fantasy: chocobo tales which are all nice little minigame, games.
